Like this there is a condition which is known as Cracked Tooth Syndrome in which the patient complains of pain in the affected tooth but there occurs no reason for the cause.

Aetiology

In Cracked Tooth Syndrome, there occurs a crack in the tooth structure that is the reason behind all the problems like pain, sensitivity etc. There are many risk factors that can cause Cracked Tooth Syndrome.

The first reason is the conservative therapy. Not it is bad to save the tooth but after undergoing endodontic therapy for saving the tooth, the tooth becomes so weak that under the normal forces of mastication, it can lead to cracks in the tooth.

The other reason behind having Cracked Tooth Syndrome is having any habit like bruxism or clenching of the teeth that can weaken the tooth structure.

Other contributing factors of Cracked Tooth Syndrome are the consumption of pan, gutka or having the betel quid.

The main line of treatment plan in Cracked Tooth Syndrome is to diagnose the case properly, diagnosing its signs and symptoms and letting the treatment get started before giving any inappropriate delay.

Signs and Symptoms

• Pin on mastication but the pain get worse while releasing the bite.
• Sensitivity to extremes of temperatures but the tooth responses to cold things very aggressively.
• Pain reported by the person without any findings by the dentist can be the symptom of Cracked Tooth Syndrome.
• Sometimes Cracked Tooth Syndrome can be noticed only after the removal of restoration and then the cracks can be evaluated.

Diagnosis

• Dental history of the tooth like the tooth ever has undergone endodontic treatment prior.
• Visual examination in which you can check for the facets of tooth structure that has undergone removal from the tooth.
• Using the probe that can find a catch in the cracked area.
• Staining present in the crack.
• Bite releasing pain present confirms the Cracked Tooth Syndrome.
• When the tooth is exposed to bright light, the crack present in the tooth blocks the light to pass through. That can be a good diagnostic tool for Cracked Tooth Syndrome.
• Radiographs.

Treatment

• If the crack is present on the cusp, it is essential to remove that cusp and then restoring the tooth again.
• If it extends to the cusp of another side and has not involved the gingival margins then it is advisable to remove the affected part and then restoring it.
• If there is present splitting of tooth then it is advisable to remove that tooth.
